Our Programmes

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION, PUBLIC AWARENESS
Environmental education programs bring about a change in attitude towards resource use, from purely utilitarian to one that embodies a sense of responsible stewardship. The anticipated impact is greater public responsibility towards environmental protection and sustainable development of the areas’ natural resources. Gender roles and responsibilities are now being positively accredited to committed and resourceful men and women.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION PROGRAMME
FlamingoNet aims to restore degraded agricultural lands to increase productivity while generating essential ecosystems services for agriculture such as soil health, water and biodiversity that is critical for pollination and other ecosystem services, We entrench the conservation ethic among local communities and promote sustained conservation effort by building capacity and linking conservation with the achievement of development aspirations.
TREE PLANTING, LANDSCAPE RESTORATION & FOREST MANAGEMENT

Forests and trees play multiple functions in contributing to the livelihoods of indigenous peoples and local communities, in supplying food and rural energy. However, these forests are threatened with agricultural expansion, over exploitation and unsustainable use of forest resources; population increase and widespread youth unemployment have led to increased pressure on forest resources. Sustainable forest management is therefore important because it requires the mainstreaming of human rights into forest governance and administration, including protecting the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities. It also requires the enhancement of procedural rights, including consultation of the public during decision making, provision of public awareness and education on forestry, access to dispute resolution mechanisms, and access to critical information.

WATER CONSERVATION

The purpose is to ensure that water is effectively conserved, managed and livelihood systems are developed to a level where local communities will benefit.

Project objectives:
1. Improve water harvesting and conservation through rainwater harvestings and protection of water sources,
2. Promote hygienic conditions with safe sanitation and access to clean water in schools & health centres,
3. Promote sustainable land use practices for enhanced farm productivity and enhanced soil and water management measures,
4. Promote good governance and management of water, forests and land based natural resources through advocacy, capacity building and collaboration among different stakeholders,
5. Build capacity of the local community and other partners to sustainably manage the water catchments.
ENERGY CONSERVATION
Our Objectives
1. Restore the catchment value by reduction of wood fuel utilization and protection of forest/tree cover.
2. Provide adjacent forest communities with alternative income sources through initiation of nature based micro-enterprises.
3. Reduce fuel wood demands by 60 % by supporting 1200 house holds to install rocket stoves
